Texas Hold'em uses two hole cards and five community cards, making it the most straightforward variant to build and the most widely understood by players. Omaha deals four hole cards, with players required to use exactly two of them โ which changes the hand evaluation logic significantly and increases the complexity of pot-limit and hi-lo split calculations. Omaha Hi-Lo adds a split-pot mechanic where the pot is divided between the highest and lowest qualifying hands, requiring a separate low-hand ranking engine running in parallel. When operators ask us about starting with one variant, we typically recommend Texas Hold'em for speed to market, then layer in Omaha or Hi-Lo as a second phase once the platform is stable.
Seven-Card Stud and Razz are street-based variants โ players receive cards individually across multiple betting rounds rather than acting on community cards. This changes the entire multiplayer architecture: the server must manage individual card visibility (some cards are face-up, others face-down), per-player bring-in logic, and a betting structure that shifts across streets rather than pre-flop/flop/turn/river. Razz uses the same street structure but ranks hands in reverse โ the lowest hand wins โ which requires a completely separate hand-ranking module.
